In the past year, I have been proud to plan and lead three firm tours for the Associated Students in Planning Club. Firm tours allow students to engage with professionals, get a feel for the office environments of vairous firms, and explore various career paths. I personally highly valued previous firm tours to San Diego, Los Angeles and Sacramento as they helped me to understand the unique work environment of public and priveate firms in the fields of transportation planning, urban design, and environemntal planning. Those trips had a secondary bennefit as they brought together club members to interact and explore the urban landscape of the cities we visited.

This year, our board attained funding to support a day trip to Fresno and Santa Brarbra, in addition to an overnight trip to San Francisco. Planning for these trips involved collaborating with officers the club’s board, staff in the CRP Department office, host firm professionals, and studend drivers and firm tour attendees. Coordination between these disperate groups was a prosess that was simeltaneously quite laborious and incredibly satifying.

I got involved with the Associated Students in Planning Club during my second year at Cal Poly as the Social Chair. In that role, I planned and hosted club social meetings, including game nights, ASPresentation night, and bowling for our mentor-mentee program.
